There’s no better time to invest in money- and energy-saving water heaters! The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 has made significant changes to homeowner tax credits for specified energy-efficient home improvements. Homeowners who purchase and install a qualifying water heater between Jan. 1, 2009 and Dec. 31, 2010 will now be eligible for a tax credit equal to 30% of the full purchase and installation price up to a maximum of $1500.
Here is a list of water heater energy rating requirements that qualify for the tax credit:
- Natural Gas, Propane or Oil: Energy factor of at least .82 or a thermal efficiency of 90%
- Solar: System must be certified by Solar Rating & Certification Corp.; the water must be used in the home and at least 50% of energy generated must come from the sun.
